There are also four special categories: Historical Harp, Harp and Vocal, Harp in an Ensemble, and New and Emerging Forms.
I competed in the Harp and Vocal Category and was awarded 1st place.
Pictured here is the Dunham Harp Ensemble. They are from Columbus, Ohio and are directed by Candyce Dunham. She is the harp teacher for all of the harpers here. Her students continue to climb through the ranks with their stunning and solid performances. Two of her own children are now competing. Candyce's husband is the builder of all five harps on stage. He is playing boudhran with their daughter on the right. The Dunham Harp Ensemble was awarded 1st place in the Harp in an Ensemble category.
Hi, Steve. Thanks for all the work to provide the postings and your participation this year. Congratulations! It would be fantastic if the SHSA could post short video clips of winning performances to share with others the display of great talent that was represented. I'm quite sure that others would be pleasantly surprised at what these gifted harpers can do!
ReplyDeleteThese kids are incredible! Candyce Dunham has an amazing talent to bring together her most creative arrangements with drawing out the best playing ability of her students to produce a winning combination and an uplifting, exciting, and inspiring performance!
Thanks to all for an inspiring weekend!
It would be great to have some short video clips available...it's just another thing to manage when there is already a shortage of volunteers.
ReplyDeleteThe posting of videos, to me, feels personal. It's a permanent record of how you sounded. Having something posted that you felt was not your most stellar performance might make you feel a bit vulnerable. Getting permissions from individuals after they've had a chance to listen and view and give their consent would be a lengthy process.
Like you, I'm glad I was there on Saturday to see and hear their performance. I agree, the Dunham harp ensemble is truly amazing.
