Sueno Stone
As an afterthought, John drove us to the remarkable and massive Sueno Stone in Forres. It is encased in glass to prevent further erosion of the Pictish carvings.
Picts were ancient inhabitants of Scotland who disappeared along with any record of what happened to them. One thought is that they were assimilated by the Scots. Another is they were annihilated. It's a mystery, but several different groups have moved in and had their influence throughout history. Look it up.
So, again, who were the Picts?
ReplyDelete(Love the sky reflections in the top photo. I wonder who keeps the glass so clean.)
