Margaret Bennett

Margaret Bennett demonstrated some of the singing customs of the different branches of the Church of Scotland. She drew parallels between some churches in the U.S. where “lining out the melody” for biblical passages is still done. A cantor sings the verse, then the congregation repeats the verse with a host of individual variations that are held together by the key notes of the original melody.
